How it works

In the past, restorations began with an impression using dental putty. It was messy, unpleasant, and led to crowns that were less likely to be a perfect fit, and might have taken weeks to create. Using our modern CEREC CAD/CAM technology, we capture a 3D digital impression of your teeth instead—which is much more detailed and accurate. Then, using that image, we use our on-site CEREC milling machine to create a perfect restoration out of a solid block of ceramic—right then during your appointment.

Benefits of digital dentistry

Digital dentistry is the modern way to create restorations. Thanks to our digital dentistry service you benefit from:

  • fewer injections, less drilling, and less time in the dental chair
  • high quality, durable, and reliable restorations in a single visit
  • the ability to preserve more of your original tooth structure
  • tooth-coloured ceramic that bonds perfectly to your teeth
  • a more comfortable and aesthetically pleasing final restoration

Primary purposes of a digital crown

We use our CEREC CAD/CAM technology for patients who need care that includes any of the below treatments.

  1. Protection of weak and cracked teeth. By providing a durable covering, ceramic crowns can hold together parts of a cracked tooth, preventing further damage and maintaining the tooth's structural integrity.
  2. Restoration of broken or worn teeth. When a tooth is broken or severely worn down, a dental crown can be used to restore its function and appearance. This is especially relevant for teeth that have undergone root canal therapy.
  3. Support for teeth with large fillings. A ceramic crown can provide additional stability and protection for a tooth with a large cavity, allowing it to function more effectively and reducing the risk of further damage.
  4. Aesthetic improvements for discoloured teeth. Dental crowns can be used to cover teeth—or dental implants—that are misshapen or severely discoloured, improving the overall appearance of the patient's smile.
